AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America)
The idea of President John F. Kennedy- VISTAs have been fighting in the front lines against poverty for 50 years. AmeriCorps VISTA members are passionate and committed to their mission to bring individuals and communities out of poverty. Members make a year-long, full-time commitment to serve on a specific project at a nonprofit organization or public agency. VISTAs are essential in empowering their local communities and building sustainable systems that help improve the lives of the people around them.

Schools and Communities: Together for Tomorrow
The goals of the Together for Tomorrow(TFT) program are to improve public education and increase high school graduation by engaging communities in support of Title I schools. The TFT program is a unique partnership between the White House Office of Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships, the U.S. Department of Education, Heart of Florida United Way, and the Corporation for National and Community Service. By focusing on recruiting and training of volunteers as positive role models the program works to impact the "ABCs"( attendance, behavior, course performance, college/career readiness) that research shows determines a student's long-term success. The program is coordinated at the school site by the AmeriCorps VISTA. The program is working to transform the lives of Title I students across Orange, Osceola, and Seminole county.
Meadowbrook Middle School
Meadowbrook Middle School is home to over 1,000 students making up our sixth, seventh, and eighth graders. As a Title I school, Meadowbrook's students are on 100% free or reduced lunch and many of our students are dealing with issues of inequality and homelessness. Eligibility for free/reduced lunch is defined by a families' income and if they are living at or below the poverty line. Even though, Meadowbrook students are dealing with incredible odds stacked against them- they have a unique will to thrive and potential for greatness.
